Our Story

Great fashion and lifestyle products do not need to be expensive and difficult to access.

This was the fundamental idea devised in 2013 that continues to define our business and unite our employees. Our growth to over 24 countries, 8 languages and millions of customers is driven by core beliefs that we focus on relentlessly.

Agile retail enables new trends to be shipped out to customers in days, instead of quarters. The power of speed and agility also drives everything else that we do. We value direct communication and being close to customers & suppliers, and consider it the only way to flourish and improve. Milestones

2013

It all starts in September 2013 with the founding of the company in Berlin. Soon after, in November, Lesara is online and attracts the first set of customers right away!

2014

In October, Lesara expands to Switzerland and Austria. In November, the company celebrates its first birthday with more than 100K customers!

2015

The office in Guangzhou (China) opens in May. In June, Lesara is launched in Italy and the Netherlands. Soon after, a documentary on the company is aired on German television show ‘Galileo’. The opening of the Lesara photo studio in Guangzhou is followed by the launch of its in-house brands Maritimi, Reverse & Peak X! By October, Lesara has its first bestseller – the hooded jacket crosses the 100,000 sales mark! As the company turns 2, it enters 16 other European markets, generates more than 50% of its revenue from mobile, works with 6 warehouses across Europe and hits 1 million customers!

2016

The French website lesara.fr is now live! Meanwhile in Milan, Lesara hosts its first fashion show. The company is awarded ‘Europe’s Fastest Growing Tech Startup’ and launches its first television campaign in Germany, followed by Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France soon after. Lesara bags the ‘Gründerszene’ award soon after its 3rd birthday and expands its team to more than 200 members. The company launches ‘Lesara Star Styles’, with celebrities flaunting their favourite Lesara looks!

2017

Belgium, Sweden, Denmark and Spain now have Lesara! Lesara wins the Criteo Award for the most innovative performance marketing campaign, the 21st Supply Chain Excellence Award for the best supply chain/logistics in retail/e-tail and the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Award for Germany’s fastest growing tech company! With an exceptional growth rate of 71,981%, Lesara also represents Germany as the country’s fastest growing company at the Deloitte Technology Fast 500™ EMEA program – an industry ranking for the fastest growing technology companies in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The company airs its second television spot in the German speaking countries. The team in Berlin moves to a new address – a brand new office – bigger and better!

The Lesara Team

Berlin

Lesara is based in both Germany and China and boasts 230 team members in Berlin in the areas of Merchandising, Finance, Marketing, IT, Human Resources, Office Management, Content, Graphics, Customer Care, Operations, Business Development and Legal. Management is based in our Berlin head office.

Erfurt

The setting up of our new distribution center, in the Thuringian capital of Erfurt in the heart of Germany, is in full swing! After the launch in May 2018, the 200-member team will take care of all logistic matters, such as incoming supplies, storage and distribution of parcels, to ensure every order reaches our customers safe and sound!

China

The international team ensures that shopping at Lesara is a pleasurable and secure experience. The 70 member team in our Guangzhou office is responsible for direct collaboration with our factories and manufacturers. The team also takes care of quality assurance and coordination of our in-house photo studio.

Founders

Roman Kirsch

CEO & Founder Lesara GmbH

Roman Kirsch is the founder and CEO of Lesara, an online shop for affordable and trend focused products and a pioneer in Agile Retail. Roman founded the company in November 2013, together with CTO Robin Müller and COO Matthias Wilrich, with a vision to revolutionize the retail industry. Roman studied business administration and finance in Germany, Great Britain, and the U.S. and founded Casacanda, the largest design shopping club in Europe, soon after. He eventually sold Casacanda to Fab.com, and went on to invest in companies such as Amorelie and Wunderdata. Roman is also a member of the World Economic Forum in Davos and featured in Forbes Magazine’s prestigious “30 under 30” list in 2016.

Matthias Wilrich

COO & Co-Founder Lesara GmbH

Matthias has been responsible for the setup of the entire Lesara after-sales processes since the start of the company in 2013. In addition to end-to-end supply chain management, he also oversees category management, customer care, business development and finance. Matthias previously worked as a strategy consultant with Accenture and Capgemini Consulting and is a graduate from the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management.

Robin Müller

CTO & Co-Founder Lesara GmbH

Robin Müller is the Chief Technology Officer at Lesara and is responsible for IT process optimisation and business intelligence. He brings with him over 12 years of experience in online business and IT. Previously, Robin was the CTO of Flightright GmbH and was also responsible for Mysportgroup GmbH's technology strategy and implementation. Robin boasts expertise in the fields of e-commerce shop systems as well as technological process optimisation.

As a company, we operate at an international level - both within our team and with our business partners. We work directly with manufacturers and producers from all around the world, continually establishing new partnerships. Not only do our product ranges continue to grow, but the number of employees and collaborators as well.

We carefully select our partners, so that we can ensure consistently high standards in quality, price-performance ratio as well as being on the cusp of the latest trends.

Our established business relationships are built on mutual respect and trust, which is reflected in our fair production and working conditions.

Through direct cooperation without middlemen, we are able to make sure that each product is subject to strict quality controls. This direct collaboration saves unnecessary transport routes and thanks to our data based production planning, also prevents overproduction.

In May 2015 our Berlin headquarters received additional support from a second office based in the hub of the Chinese business metropolis Guangzhou. Located in the heart of a thriving commercial centre, our employees scout out the best production companies and distributors in Asia, establishing contact between them and the European market. The team regularly visits our manufacturing sites to ensure that our products are being made under fair conditions and internationally recognized social standards. A fundamental part of our corporate culture is a responsible relationship between man and nature. With this in mind our partners must adhere to a strictly asserted and legally binding code of conduct.

Code of Conduct

It is important to us, as an international company, that everyone who works with or for us is able to fully exercise their human and labour rights. This is why we created our ‘Code of Conduct’, which must be signed by each and every one of our international partners. It is imperative for us to ensure that our daily work and business practices are anchored in internationally recognised human rights and labour standards. The foundation of the Code of Conduct are the conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the United Nations standards. Although the cultural or political background of our business partners may differ from our own, we strongly believe in universal human rights, which must be respected and protected in all circumstances. Our own day-to-day behaviour reflects this, as we strive to lead by example. Any disregard of our Code, will result in repercussions and impact any future working relationships, and is basis for our cooperation with potential suppliers and their subcontractors. National jurisdiction is obviously applicable in all cases, independent of this Agreement.
